  • (IPB), The Belgrade daily newspaper "24 sata" (24 hours) had a front page article about the newly planned Blue Danube supercomputing center. The article was based on an interview that Prof. Aleksandar Bogojevic gave to the journalist Lidija Tomic. The emphasys of the article, and of the wider interview, was on how modern supercomputing resources can be of use to the wider public. Prof. Bogojevic talked about the experience that the Scientfic Computing Laboratory of the Institute of Physics Belgrade has amassed in the past five years of participating in European eInfrastructure projects dealing with the development and use of High Performance Computing resources (most notably the currently active Framework projects PRACE, EGI-Inspire, HP-SEE). Particular emphasys was put on the practical applications of the newly planned Blue Danube supercomputer within the National Supercomputing and Data Storage Facility. • (IPB), The Blic newspaper carried a longer version of the interview that Prof. Aleksandar Bogojevic recently gave to journalist Lidija Tomic. The interview presents the High Performance Computing activities at the Scientific Computing Laboratory of the Institue of Physics Belgrade that have culminated in the creation of a robust hub for reintegration of experts from Serbia's scientific diaspora. These activities and the HPC infrastructure that they rely on have been financed both from National and European sources. In 2012 this will result in the opening of the new Blue Danub supercomputing facility. The article lists several applications that are planned to run on the new infrastructure that are of wider relevance to the general public, e.g. Blue Danube opens up the opportunity for practical application of climate modelling to Serbia's agriculture sector.
