Objectives of the computing project

ASEP in 2D is a simple reaction-diffusion model that helps studying the spread of pollutants (heavy metals) in soil. The model isstudied through simulations, since the annalytical solution, even in the mean-field approx., is too involved. The simulations aimat obtaining the phase diagrams of the system, as well as density profiles. We currently are at a point where we need largercomputing capacities, since simulations of reasonable system sizes (200X200 and larger) on a single PC take weeks per run.The first results from these simulations would permit elaboration of the model, to include more realistic elements, such as adsorbing sites, etc.

Application's description

It is a reaction-diffusion model (so far we are only implementing diffusion) in which pollutant can move in the soil in 3 (down, left, right) or 4 (also up) allowed directions. Pollutant enters at a constant rate and exits at another (generally different from the rate of entry) rate.

Results expected in the allocation period

We study the density profiles, current, and the resulting phase diagrams of the system, for different parameters (entry rate, exit rate, and jump probabilities).
